ASTRID by Denis-V ASTRID by Denis-V
This is my new drawing showing Nordic girl from old Scandia. She wears typical clothes of the Migration and Viking times. After a long time I did this drawing and I gotta tell you, it was relaxing experience. Thank you for your support and inspiration.

Lovely drawing! I was wondering, is this in any way inspired by Astrid from How To Train Your Dragon?

Niceee! the usual Beautiful Nordic girl in a highly detailed clothing.....wait, you actually did the very detailed shading even on the chainmail? Wow, just wow :o

I'm out of words on the level of skill needed to draw this, simply well done :). Come to think of, where do you get the reference for the Nordic jewelries? i've been trying to look for it but most of them are modern stylized version..

Thank you my friend for such nice words and for support! :D
For the chainmail I used white ballpoint pen to highlight light reflection and it turned quite well. I like the effect. :D When looking for rfference for the Nordic jewelry I try to visit web sites of different Nordic and Viking museums in Danmark, Sweden and Norway such as:
jorvik-viking-centre.co.uk/

flickrhivemind.net/Tags/reiska…

www.khm.uio.no/english/

battlemetal.org/?p=94

www.lofotr.no/en/History-br-/-…

www.archeolog-home.com/pages/c…

www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetec…

etc.

Every time when I draw something from some historical period I like to do research with adding word "archaeology" to any historical period and with that I get selected information. :) I`ve got some range of knowledge about Nordic archaeology, so it helps me to precise what to draw and how to make it happen. I usually use archaeology books and scientific papers to find the real item. What can I say, I like history :) and I read that kind of stuff for fun and sometimes, drawing emerge from reading some dull paper about archaeology. Not that I read scientific papers just to draw something correctly. I`m not so good in recognizing real form fake in eastern archaeology though. I`can`t cover all eras and cultures, so I stick to what I like the most. :D I like how you spread your interest and research on many cultures as possible and how you cover pretty well all the details and atmosphere! I like that approach! :D Hope this helps. See you around! :D
